(IN)TENSION
In physics, "Tension" is defined as the pulling force connecting two or more objects by means of a chain or a cable. When we move with (in)tension, we connect the entire kinetic chain from head to toe. Moving with (in)tension takes work to learn, but once you've got it, nothing else compares.
WHAT IS "PHYSICAL TRAINING"?
The fitness and rehabilitation fields are fragmented and need help. At (in)tension, we are trying to connect the spaces in between the work of physiotherapists and personal trainers. We work to improve your relationship with movement, and provide the best possible methods and tools to assist you to feel better in your body. Learning to connect to your entire fascial network is a powerful way to help address pain, weakness, instability, muscle atrophy, and so on. We believe that movement should never cause pain or feel like punishment. This doesn't mean your workout should be easy; in fact, quite the opposite!
THE PROCESS
As students of movement ourselves, we are constantly driving to learn and grow within the field. New information and research is constantly becoming available, and we are commited to applying best practice every day. We are passionate about inspiring our clients to understand their joint health and anatomy by maximizing their strength, coordination, and mobility. Our unique approach to training begins with a full body assessment – this will allow us to objectively identify areas of strength and weakness. From there, we will develop and deliver a customized workout plan to help you achieve your goals.
MOVEMENT SPECIALISTS
After spending three years helping physically disabled students while I studied at Carleton University, I found I really enjoyed helping others live more active and healthy lifestyles. I was inspired to turn my love for sport and exercise into a full fledged career that diverged from what I was studying at University. I began pursuing personal training certifications and building my skill set, constantly learning and growing, which continues to this day. I love what I do and feel fortunate every day to be where I am.
I have certifications from Functional Range Conditioning (FRCms and Kinstretch), CanFitpro, as well as The Sports and Nutrition Institute. I’ve taken courses offered by Tyler Touchette (of CavemanStrong) and The Foot Collective. I’ve also completed the Functional Patterns 10 Week Online Course, and am enrolled for their Human Foundations course in December 2020.
